Compulsory Liquidation Petition Filed Against Global Airlines
A creditor of UK-based aviation start-up Global Airlines has filed a petition seeking the company’s compulsory liquidation. The filing, registered on May 29, 2026, marks the second winding-up petition against the company in the past two years. A previous petition was withdrawn in October 2025. The latest filing does not mean Global Airlines is insolvent, as the petition could still be dismissed by the court or withdrawn by the creditor.
The airline’s only Airbus A380, registered 9H-GLOBL, operates under the Air Operator Certificate of Hi Fly Malta. The aircraft previously operated charter flights between the United Kingdom and New York, while planned scheduled services have yet to begin. Global Airlines is also targeting flights to the Maldives, although the A380 is expected to undergo heavy maintenance scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. The aircraft is currently in long-term storage in southern France.
Global Airlines has built its business model around the A380’s large cabin and a premium passenger experience, but high operating costs and the need to achieve sufficient load factors remain significant challenges. With the court process still ongoing, it is too early to say that Global Airlines has ceased operations.
